WELL HELLO.
I just worked at my first (and last) wedding dinner, and I made it out alive!! :D
Pam's sick (I think) so I had to fill in for her, and cue immense trepidation because all I've ever done were buffets which are admittedly pretty easy and even then, my suckiness as a waitress knew no bounds. I made some mistakes today (especially during portioning like spilling the soup and SPLASHING THE FISH TAIL SO EMBARRASSING and turning the fish round and round to figure out the best way to cut it). I think all the guests kind of figured I was new after about ten minutes. But everything went relatively okay.
Okay so the credit doesn't go to me, it goes to my awesome partner and the almost equally awesome drinks server who was helping us. Was originally two to three tables, and it became three to three. And I only portioned four dishes out of nine, so you can tell who was doing all the work. Heh. The drinks server was a bit impatient with me though, because I am dense and slow. But she helped us a lot! Or else I think we'd have failed miserably.
And I had an awesome partner!! Who was not mad at me (at least not openly) for being clueless and slow and asking a lot of questions. He was really nice and spoke to me in English (he's from China, but his English is pretty good) and taught me how to portion food and didn't seem to mind that he had to tell me what to do every ten seconds. And he had to do most of the work, I never even had to carry the main courses on the oval tray. THANK YOU random guy whose name I didn't really know but forgot anyway even though you will never see this.
SHIT I FORGOT TO TAKE THE BRIEFING PAPER OUT OF MY JACKET POCKET OHNOEZ. AND I PURPOSELY REMINDED MYSELF TO DO IT TOO. D:
Oh well. Off to bath and bed!
